Course Objective: The objectives of this course are to enable students to:
- Develop a strong foundation in database fundamentals, conceptual modeling, and relational models including design, relational algebra, and SQL.
- Apply effective database design techniques such as normalization and analyze transaction processing systems with focus on concurrency control, recovery, and ACID properties.
Evaluate advanced aspects of database systems including storage structures, security mechanisms, and query optimization for efficient and reliable data management.
Course Outcome: Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Understand the database fundamentals along with conceptual modeling to address real-life applications.
- Explain the basic concepts of the relational data model, entity-relationship model, relational database design, relational algebra, and SQL.
- Apply normalization techniques to eliminate redundancy and ensure data integrity.
- Analyze transaction-processing systems with respect to concurrency control, recovery techniques, and ACID properties to ensure consistency and reliability.
